Google AdSense ads

Google AdSense ads are served on lab tool pages (/lab). Google and third-party vendors use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. This may process your IP address, device and browser information, and ad interaction history.

Anonymous sessions

Some lab tools, such as the reaction-time ranking, issue an anonymous guest session for nickname display and daily participation limits. An anonymous identifier is stored in a browser cookie, and a daily count per IP address is tallied temporarily to prevent abuse. No real-name information such as your name or email is collected.

Comments

When you comment, the name and text you enter are stored and shown publicly. So that you can delete a comment from the device that wrote it, an anonymous session identifier is stored in a browser cookie and recorded with the comment. If you clear the cookie you can no longer delete it from that device, so ask by email instead. The site owner can delete any comment. To prevent abuse, a hashed identifier derived from your IP address counts submissions, and Cloudflare Turnstile checks them. Expired counts are removed during the next cleanup. You can also request comment removal by email.

Notifications

When you turn on comment notifications, the push subscription your browser creates (the push service address and encryption keys) and your display language are stored together with the anonymous session identifier. They are used only to send reply and new-comment notifications, which are delivered through your browser vendor's push service (for example Google, Apple, or Mozilla). The stored data is deleted when you turn notifications off, when the browser unsubscribes, or when the push service reports the subscription as expired.

Infrastructure

The site is served through Cloudflare, which may process your IP address and request information for security, caching, and delivery.

Cookies and ad choices

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. You can opt out of Google personalized ads via Google Ads Settings, and third-party vendor ads via aboutads.info.
